More than 800 peonies are currently in full bloom at the Peony Garden in the Nanhu Lake scenic area, local media reported on March 31.

The Peony Garden is located in the Shaoyao (Chinese herbaceous peony) Park at the Nanhu Lake scenic area.

"In addition to Chinese herbaceous peonies, there are more than 1,000 flowers at Shaoyao Park, including several peonies that are more than 100 years old," said Lu Qunfang, president of Yufeng Garden Construction Group Co, the company responsible for building the park this year.

There are also 280,000 tulips in the scenic area.

The scenic area has planted a variety of flowers for the different seasons, including cherry blossoms and filamental flowering crabs for spring, crape myrtle flowers and hydrangeas for summer, maples and laurels for autumn, and plum blossoms for winter.

Nanhu Lake, along with Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing and West Lake in Hangzhou, has been dubbed one of the "Three Renowned Lakes" of the south Yangtze River. The lake is famous for being the site of the first National Congress of Communist Party of China in 1921.

The Nanhu Lake scenic area boasts scenic views, an ancient garden complex, and the revered Nanhu Lake Revolutionary Memorial.
