Haining, a county-level city in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, recently published a handbook to regulate the management of hazardous and solid waste, Jiaxing Daily reported on March 31.

The handbook stipulates the requirements for solid waste storage facilities, management system, disposal facilities, and waste treatment plants. It also clarifies the management standards for hazardous waste and general industrial solid waste.

The handbook also details the requirements in standardizing storage places, signs, and records about the management of the aforementioned waste.

Companies in Haining that produce solid waste are required to register on the Jiaxing general industrial solid waste information monitoring system and submit records about their solid waste treatment.

"We plan to distribute the handbook to local companies and send staff members to offer them guidance," said a staff member from the Haining branch of the Jiaxing municipal bureau of natural environment.

Jiaxing started relatively late in its solid waste management efforts. The city has insufficient disposal facilities, while the solid waste produced in the city is of large quantity and covers a wide variety.

"The handbook lays a solid foundation for managing the production, collection, storage, transportation, and disposal of solid waste in Jiaxing," said a staff member from the Jiaxing municipal bureau of natural environment.
