Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province has been approved to pilot cross-border e-commerce retail imports, according to a recent notice from the Ministry of Commerce and five other national authorities.

Therefore, Jiaxing is allowed to engage in online bonded imports.

The city currently is promoting the implementation of the "1210" model and enriching its foreign trade businesses.

"1210" is the code for a customs supervision model, with its full title being "bonded cross-border trade and e-commerce", or "bonded e-commerce" for short.

The supervision model requires bonded cross-border traders to be recorded by customs and send real-time data about trade, payment, storage, and logistics via e-commerce platforms.

Meanwhile, Jiaxing is actively coordinating with the customs department in a bid to get approval from the authority for the"1210" model.

According to the implementation plan on the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive demonstration zone in Jiaxing approved by the provincial government last year, the city will develop a cross-border e-commerce business by adopting a "one core, one zone, and industrial parks" layout.

One core refers to the Jiaxing Comprehensive Bonded Zone, which will attract comprehensive foreign trade service suppliers and e-commerce platform companies. One zone refers to the airport economic zone, which is expected to promote the construction of a civil and military airport in Jiaxing.
