Jiaxing ports in East China's Zhejiang province got off to a flying start in the first quarter of this year, local media reported on April 16.

The cargo throughput of Jiaxing Port surged 36.33 percent year-on-year to 30.61 million metric tons from January to March, including 478,900 twenty-feet equivalent units (TEUs), a year-on-year increase of 32.57 percent.

The port delivered 3.96 million tons of foreign trade cargo, a year-on-year increase of 20.36 percent, including 98,800 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 20.27 percent.

More than 5.92 million tons of cargo were delivered at Jiaxing Port via sea-river combined transportation, a year-on-year increase of 39.6 percent, including 88,500 TEUs, a 77.65 percent year-on-year increase.

The Jiaxing Inland Port transported 23.83 million tons of cargo, a year-on-year increase of 45.55 percent, including 77,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 15.36 percent.

Mineral building materials, steel, coal, and coal products were the main contributors to the substantial increase.

The port's throughput in mineral building materials, steel, coal, and coal products jumped 47.98 percent, 68.21 percent, and 26.23 percent year-on-year to 14.25 million tons, 2.24 million tons, and 1.89 million tons, respectively.
