The traditional manufacturing industry in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, got off to a solid start this year as it experienced a quick and comprehensive recovery, local media reported on April 19.
The added value of 17 traditional manufacturing industries above designated size totaled 34.94 billion yuan ($5.38 billion) in the first quarter of this year, 4.03 billion yuan more than the same period in 2019.
These industries' added value witnessed a 36 percent year-on-year increase and 17.4 percent increase from 2019, 2.8 percentage points and 0.8 percentage points higher than the provincial average, respectively.
Among the 17 traditional manufacturing industries in Jiaxing, the growth rates of the added value of the metalware, auto parts, and stationery and sporting goods industries above designated size were ranked among the top three in the province.
The growth rates of the added value of another 10 traditional manufacturing industries above designated size, including the chemical engineering, textile, chemical fiber, papermaking, farm and sideline food processing, and household appliance industries, were higher than the respective provincial averages.
However, the added value of the leather, clothing, textile, furniture, and papermaking industries above designated size in the city has not yet recovered to 2019 levels.
Moving forward, Jiaxing will continue pursuing the transformation and upgrading of its traditional manufacturing industries and working to improve the quality of their products.
The city will also carry out reforms on manufacturing companies with high energy consumption, high emissions, and low output this year. By the end of this year, the reform of companies generating less than 20,000 yuan in taxes per mu for the past three years will be completed.
