A three-year action plan for major projects in the demonstration areas for the integrated environmental development of the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region was published at a press conference on May 12.

In 2019, Jiashan county in Jiaxing, Qingpu district in Shanghai, and Wujiang district in Suzhou were selected as demonstration areas.

The action plan specifies major projects involving environmental protection, interconnectivity of infrastructure, industrial innovation, and people's wellbeing from 2021 to 2023.

Four demonstration projects were also mentioned in the action plan, namely, the Watertown Center in Jiashan, the Xicen Tech Innovation Center in Qingpu, the High-Speed Rail New City in Wujiang, and the Xiangfudang Innovation Center in Jiashan.

Jiashan has planned 47 projects this year, including seven involving environmental protection, 19 involving interconnectivity of infrastructure, nine involving industrial innovation, and four involving people's wellbeing.

In the first quarter of this year, Jiashan's GDP increased 24.3 percent year-on-year, 5.6 percentage points higher than the provincial average and 3.8 percentage points higher than Jiaxing's average.

The added value of industries above designated size in Jiashan increased 50 percent year-on-year during the same period, with a two-year average growth rate of 21 percent, ranking first in Jiaxing.

"Due to the major projects launched in the past two years, we've managed to make some major achievements, and the demonstration area in Jiashan has gained strong development momentum," said Chen Tianrong, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of the demonstration area in Jiashan, at the press conference.
