The import and export value of Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province increased 46.7 percent year-on-year to 31.62 billion yuan ($4.91 billion) in April, according to statistics from Jiaxing Customs.

The city's exports jumped 38.7 percent year-on-year to 22.72 billion yuan, while its imports surged 72.2 percent year-on-year to 8.9 billion yuan.

Jiaxing's trade with the European Union, the United States, and South Korea stood at 5.43 billion yuan, 5.22 billion yuan, and 1.77 billion yuan in April, with respective year-on-year increases of 21.5 percent, 45.2 percent, as well as 56.4 percent.

Its trade with Africa, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and Latin America increased 120 percent, 76.3 percent, and 25.5 percent year-on-year to 1.91 billion yuan, 4.57 billion yuan, as well as 1.58 billion yuan respectively.

A staff member from Jiaxing Customs said that the exports of high-tech products in Jiaxing experienced a staggering increase in April, adding that high-tech product exports were valued at 3.51 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 51.5 percent.

The exports of mechanical and electrical products amounted to 11.06 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 50.5 percent and accounting for 48.7 of the city's total export value.

In April, the imports and exports of private companies in Jiaxing reached 19.74 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 50 percent and accounting for 62.4 percent of the city's total amount.
