Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province has published a plan to establish itself as a "Beautiful City" in 15 years, local media reported on May 25.

The plan has set targets for the city's future development.

Its near-term target is to grow into a national demonstration environmentally-friendly city by 2025 featuring high-quality development and efficient management.

Jiaxing aims to experience rapid green and innovative development. An industrial system of green, low-carbon, and circular development will be established, with the goal that its utilization level of clean energy will lead the country. The added value of core digital economy industries will account for more than 12 percent of the total GDP, while the proportion of the modern service industry's added value to the service industry's will be increased.

According to the plan, the natural environment in the city will be further improved. The water quality of the offshore area in Jiaxing will become better, the concentration of PM2.5 in the downtown area will be lower than 28 micrograms per cubic meter, 88 percent of the days in a year will have good air quality, and a zero waste city will be established.

Balanced urban and rural development will also be achieved. The income ratio of urban and rural residents in Jiaxing will be kept within 1.61, while sorting treatment facilities for household waste will be available in both rural and urban areas.

By 2030, it is expected that local residents will enjoy the beautiful and pleasant natural environment in Jiaxing, with the city also boasting vigorous economic development, as well as further balanced urban and rural development.

By 2035, Jiaxing will become the pilot demonstration area of "Beautiful China" and contribute its experiences for global sustainable development.
