Jiaxing a cozy abode for plants, animals

Many rare animals and plants have been found in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, by staff members of local ecological environment bureau in recent days, local media reported on June 8.
This year, local authorities launched a field investigation about local wildlife that is expected to last for a year.
Water pheasant, a grade-two wildlife under State protection, was found in Tongxiang, a county-level city in Jiaxing, for the first time.
The county-level city has been found to have 122 species of higher plants, 66 species of birds, five species of amphibians, and two species of reptiles and small mammals.
Moreover, 18 types of fishes, including the rare and endangered Japanese eel, have been discovered in the Xiangjia River in Xiuzhou district.
In recent years, Jiaxing has taken various measures to improve its local natural environment and the city now has become a comfortable home for various wildlife.
