Jiaxing performs well in 'common prosperity'

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province has been performing well in its quest to achieve "common prosperity" in recent years, local media reported on June 22.

In 2020, the per capita disposal income of urban and rural residents in the city totaled 64,124 yuan ($9,894) and 39,801 yuan respectively. In contrast, the annual income of Jiaxing residents was just 56 yuan in 1949.

The income of rural residents in Jiaxing has been the highest in the province for 17 consecutive years. Meanwhile, the income ratio of its urban to rural residents stood at 1.61 last year, the lowest in Zhejiang.

In 2020, the per capita consumption expenditure of urban and rural residents in Jiaxing amounted to 36,384 yuan and 34,482 yuan respectively. In 1949, that of Jiaxing residents was just 54.39 yuan.

The Engel's coefficient of urban residents in the city was 26.7 percent in 2020, a drop of 17.2 percent from 1997, while the Engel's coefficient of the city's rural residents was 28.2 percent, a 22.4 percent drop from 1997.

In 2020, Jiaxing's GDP was 550.95 billion yuan. In 1949, the total output of the city's industry and agriculture was 397 million yuan.

Jiaxing authorities allocated 55.68 billion yuan to improving people's livelihoods last year. This amount accounted for 78.2 percent of the total general public budget.

Some 22,600 residents from 15,200 households in the city received the minimum living allowance from local government in 2020.
