The royal bricks made by the Shen Family kiln in Jiashan county, Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, were recently listed as Zhejiang's outstanding intangible cultural heritage tourism products by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

The Shen Family kiln has a history of more than 200 years and is renowned for making royal bricks.

In 2009, the kiln's royal brick making skill was added to the list of provincial intangible cultural heritage items. Last year, the kiln was authorized by the local government to make bricks for the reconstructed Jiaxing Railway Station.

To further promote the kiln, the manager designs royal bricks according to customers' demands and also develops relevant products, including royal bricks for calligraphy practicing and those engraved with China's core values.

Ganyao town where the kiln is situated boasts a prosperous brick and kiln culture. In addition to various brick and kiln related techniques, the town also has brick carving culture and kiln legends.

Ganyao will further make full use of its kiln culture by constructing an exhibition hall, a kiln culture experience zone and restoring abandoned kilns.
