The original dance drama Guardians of Red Boat made its debut at Jiaxing Grand Theater in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 3.

The drama is themed around Wang Huiwu, wife of Li Da, one of the early Communist Party of China leaders, who helped arrange the transfer of the first national congress of CPC from Shanghai to Jiaxing.

Born in Wuzhen in 1898, Wang had always pursued gender equality. She met her husband Li Da, Chen Duxiu, and other revolutionary comrades in Shanghai.

In 1921, CPC's first national congress was convened in Shanghai. However, the weeklong meeting was interrupted on the second to last day by the French police. At Wang's suggestion, the meeting was transferred to Jiaxing and completed on the now iconic Red Boat.

The drama was produced by the CPC Jiaxing Municipal Committee, the Jiaxing Municipal People's Government, China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater, and Communication University of Zhejiang.

On Sept 20 and 21, the dance drama will be staged at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
