Construction of railway linking Jiaxing with Shanghai to start in 2022
Construction of a high-speed railway connecting Jiaxing, Zhejiang province with Fengnan village in Shanghai is expected to begin in May 2022, according to an assessment meeting held in Jiaxing on Sept 9.
The railway, which will span 35 kilometers and have a designed speed of 160 km per hour, will have an underground section spanning 12.6 km and eight stations situated along it.
The estimated investment for the project is more than 20 billion yuan ($3.1 billion). Following its completion, travel between Jiaxingnan Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Central Business District will be shortened to 53 minutes.
Unlike other high-speed railways in China, the Jiaxing-Shanghai railway will offer more convenient trips by allowing passengers to use their bus cards instead of identity cards.
