Denmark-based Lego Group announced that it will expand its business in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on Jan 4.

"In recent years, we've seen robust demand for Lego toys in Asia, especially in China," said Carsten Rasmussen, chief operating officer of Lego Group. "Therefore, we decided to increase the production capacity of our factory in Jiaxing and purchase more equipment for it."

The expansion project will include an automatic warehouse, a workshop for processing Lego bricks and more injection molding equipment. Construction will be completed in 2024.

In 2014, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark witnessed the start of construction on Lego Toy Manufacturing (Jiaxing) Co Ltd. It became the group's first and only Asian factory and started operating by the end of 2015.

After six years of development, Lego's Jiaxing factory now employs 1,200 workers and is capable of manufacturing all Lego products, allowing Lego lovers in the Asia Pacific to buy the latest Lego products as early as consumers in other parts of the world.

"Thanks to support from our parent company, we can satisfy 90 percent of demand in the Asia Pacific," said Richard Wong, senior vice-president of Lego Group.

Lego Group is a toy manufacturing company that makes Lego-brand toys, consisting mostly of interlocking plastic bricks. Lego Group has also built several amusement parks around the world, each known as Legoland, and operates numerous retail stores.
