Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province recently published a five-year plan for the development of its construction industry, local media reported on Jan 5.

According to the plan, the city will improve the competitiveness of local construction companies in the following years and by the end of 2025, the total output value of the construction industry in Jiaxing should amount to 180 billion yuan ($28.26 billion).

Jiaxing will implement green, low-carbon, and energy-saving design standards around the city to ensure the energy efficiency rate of new buildings reaches 75 percent.

Jiaxing will also promote the application of digital technology in the construction industry and by 2023, construction robots and intelligent control building machines will be used in the city.

Construction companies in Jiaxing will also be encouraged to invest outside Zhejiang. By the end of 2025, the proportion of its construction industry's output outside Zhejiang to its total output should increase by more than 10 percent over 2020. In the same year, local construction companies will tap overseas markets.

In addition, a number of high-profile architectural engineers and outstanding building workers will be cultivated by the end of 2025.

In recent years, the construction industry in Jiaxing has maintained stable development and its contribution to the city's economic development has continued to rise.

From 2016 to 2020, the cumulative output value of the construction industry was 547.8 billion yuan, with an annual growth rate of 6 percent.

As of November 2021, the annual output value of Jiaxing's construction industry had totaled 124.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16 percent. In 2021, 17 buildings in the city won awards, including five national awards.
