Jiaxing athlete makes debut at Beijing Winter Olympics

Du Jia'ni from Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, and her partner Ying Qing ranked 14th in the 2-woman bobsleigh competition in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics on Feb 19, local media reported.
Born in 1999, Du was admitted to the track and field team of the Haining Sports School for Young Children in 2008. She was selected as a member of the provincial track and field team four years later.
In 2019, Du was drafted into the national team, where she started training in bobsleigh and tobogganing.
One year later, Du and her partner won the 2-woman bobsleigh competition at the 14th National Winter Games, the first gold medal for Jiaxing at the national sports event.
During the 19-day event, the Chinese delegation earned a national record haul of 15 medals, including nine gold, to finish third in gold medals, its best performance since China's Winter Olympics debut at the 1980 Lake Placid Games in the United States.
In addition, 17 Olympic records, including two world records, were broken, while gold medals were awarded in a record number of 109 events at the most
