Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province was home to 5.516 million permanent residents as of the end of 2021, 105,000 more than in 2020.

Among them, 3.6764 million are urban residents while 1.4396 million are rural residents. The proportion of urban residents to the permanent residents in the city, or the urbanization rate, was 71.9 percent, 0.6 percentage points higher than in 2020.

There were 38,600 newborns and 32,500 deaths in Jiaxing in 2021. The city's birth rate was 7 per thousand, the death rate was 5.9 per thousand, and the natural growth rate was 1.1 per thousand.

The top three districts and counties in terms of permanent resident population are Nanhu district (862,700), Xiuzhou district (695,700), and Jiashan county (659,000) with respective urbanization rates of 87.7 percent, 67.4 percent, and 73.8 percent.
