A 33-year-old male resident of Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, donated hematopoietic stem cells from his bone marrow on March 11 in Hangzhou to save a child.

The donor, Fu Linfeng, works in construction. Though busy with work, Fu is enthusiastic about public welfare and often volunteers to donate blood. In 2012, he signed up for the China Marrow Donor Program after donating blood.

"Before the Spring Festival this year, I was informed that my stem cells matched a patient and I was the only donor," said Fu. "I agreed to donate without hesitation, as I couldn't refuse the chance to save a life."

At the beginning of March, Fu came to Hangzhou to prepare for the donation, and over the course of five days, he was injected with nine shots of bone marrow mobilizer to stimulate the growth of stem cells.

Fu also taught his two children about hematopoietic stem cells before visiting Hangzhou, hoping to imbue them with a volunteer spirit as well.

This is the 767th bone marrow donation conducted in Zhejiang and the 73rd in Jiaxing. More than 11,000 have been conducted nationwide to date.
