The Jiaxing Charity Federation and Jiaxing Social Work Association set up a fund in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on March 15, which marks the 16th World Social Work Day, to provide support for local social workers, local media reported.
The fund is aimed at professional social workers at local social organizations and residential communities, as well as their family members.
The fund will be used to treat serious illness, support poverty-stricken families and provide condolence payments and other types of support in case of death of family members.
According to the founders, all donations received by the fund will be used to help social workers, while members of the management committee and other employees will not have any part of it.
Jiaxing is currently home to about 15,000 certified social workers and as of March 15, the Jiaxing Charity Federation had received 65,227 yuan ($10,281) in donations this year, part of which will be set aside for the new fund.
