​Jiaxing's foreign trade up 22.4% in May

The imports and exports of Jiaxing in Zhejiang province amounted to 164.17 billion yuan ($24.51 billion) in the first five months of this year, according to Jiaxing Customs.

In May, the city's foreign trade totaled 35.93 billion yuan, an increase of 22.4 percent. The export value was 16.85 billion yuan, an increase of 23.6 percent, while the import value was 9.09 billion yuan, up 18.7 percent.

During the period, the city's import and export growth rate, export growth rate and import growth rate increased by four, five and three places respectively among the cities in the province compared with April.

The city's export volume with RCEP member countries was valued at 6.71 billion yuan in May, up 23.9 percent year-on-year, and accounting for 25 percent of city's total export value, while the import volume hit 4.56 billion yuan, an increase of 21.4 percent year-on-year, and accounting for 50.2 percent of city's total import value.

In addition, the city's exports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative amounted to9.08 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 32.1 percent, and accounting for 33.8 percent of the city's total export value, while imports totaled 2.84 billion yuan, rising 15.5 percent year-on-year, and accounting for 31.3 percent of the city's total import value.

The city's exports of mechanical and electrical products, labor-intensive products and high-tech products were worth 12.32 billion yuan, 9.71 billion yuan and 4.57 billion yuan, up 21.2 percent, 25.3 percent and 36.8 percent year-on-year respectively.

Among mechanical and electrical products, the export value of solar cells was 2 billion yuan, an increase of 1.7 times and improving the city's export growth rate by 5.8 percentage points.
