The opening ceremony of Jiaxing's first Art Promotion Month was held on Aug 3 at Xiuhu Plaza in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, according to local media reports.

To improve people's cultural and artistic accomplishments, enhance aesthetic appeal and stimulate cultural creativity, Jiaxing has designated August as its Art Popularization Month starting this year.

This year's Art Promotion Month will last until Aug 31.

During this period, over 300 activities will be held at public cultural venues at the city, county, town and village levels, including singing competitions, concerts and art exhibitions.

In addition, 31 literary and art workers were appointed as ambassadors for art promotion at the ceremony.

The Jiaxing government has long attached great importance to the construction of a public cultural service system and has ranked first in the provincial grassroots public cultural service evaluation for eight consecutive years.

Launching the art promotion month campaign is another innovative measure of the city to strengthen public cultural services and enrich the spiritual life of the people, said Zhou Jing, director of the culture, radio, television and tourism bureau of Jiaxing.
