The online retail sales of Pinghu in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province totaled 10.8 billion yuan ($1.51 billion) from January to July, a year-on-year increase of 33.8 percent, the highest growth rate in Jiaxing.

As a new driver of consumption in Pinghu, e-commerce's development can be attributed to support from platforms.

Pinghu is attracting well-known e-commerce platforms such as Taobao, JD.com, and Douyin to carry out major projects such as the JD.com Smart City (Zhejiang and Shanghai) Innovation Center, Douyin E-commerce Livestreaming Base, and Lifease, leading the development of the city's e-commerce economy.

Relying on characteristic industries such as agricultural products, clothing, bags and baby carriages, the city has raised the quality of e-commerce villages and towns and strengthened the agglomeration capacity of rural e-commerce industries.

The city is now home to more than 100 enterprises involved in cross-border e-commerce, an increase of more than 20 over the same period last year.
