Pinghu's suitcase and bag exports expanded 60.3 percent year-on-year to 2.07 billion yuan ($283 million) from January to August, close to last year's total, local media reported on Oct 23.

As a major luggage producer, China has more than 20,000 suitcase and bag manufacturers, and a third of China's luggage exports come from Pinghu.

Pinghu's bag and suitcase manufacturers are receiving an increasing number of orders, mainly due to surging demand overseas.

Jiaxing Kamaqiao Luggage Co Ltd saw an increase of 40 percent in orders, according to Zhang Zhongliang, chairman of the company.

The company has recently been focusing on orders placed by customers in August and September, which are mainly sent to the United States, India and the European Union. This year, orders from Australia and Japan have also increased a lot, said Zhang.

For the company's largest customer, 136 containers have been delivered in the first nine months of this year, an increase of about 50 percent over last year, added Zhang.
