The 91st International Wool Textile Organization Congress was held in Puyuan town, Tongxiang, Jiaxing, Zhejiang province on Oct 24.

The conference was attended online and offline by people from 17 countries, including 87 foreign representatives and more than 400 domestic representatives.

According to Wolf Edmayr, chairman of the International Wool Textile Organization (IWTO), during the two-day conference, global wool textile industry peers will discuss the sustainable development plan of the wool textile industry, listen to the views of young leaders in the industry, and work together to allow the wool textile industry to accelerate its pace of green environmental transformation.

The conference is a high-level annual comprehensive conference in the global wool textile industry.

It was the first on-site and online conference resumed by the IWTO after the pandemic in 2020.

The Tongxiang municipal government applied to host the International Wool Textile Organization Congress in May 2018.

As the "hometown of woolen sweaters" in China, Puyuan in Tongxiang has become the largest woolen sweater production and sales base in China and one of the "customers" with the highest woolen textile demand in the world.

In September, sales of woolen sweaters in Puyuan reached 12.3 billion yuan ($1.68 billion), up 30 percent month-on-month. From January to September, Puyuan's transactions were valued at 56.89 billion yuan, 50 percent of which were online sales.

It is hoped that the conference will attract more wool textile organizations and global partners to Tongxiang and that the city will make every effort to create the best conditions for every investor, said Yu Huiyou, Part chief of the CPC Tongxiang municipal party committee.
