Wangjiangjing town in Xiuzhou district, Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, recently entered winter fishing season.
Wangjiangjing town, known as the "home of black carp" in China, is home to Jiaxing city's largest fresh water lake – Meijiadang. The lake is rich in snails and clams that black carp like to eat, making it suitable for black carp farming.
Black carp has to be farmed for three years before it can be caught. The fishing season will last until the Spring Festival, and as the new year approaches, sales of black carp will increase.
Dried black carp, which represents abundance, is always a staple of the Spring Festival table.
Twenty-five percent of black carp that is caught will be processed into dried black carp by salting, pressing and drying, and sold throughout the country.
"Wangjiangjing town sells about 200,000 dried black fish every year through various sales channels," said the head of Wangjiangjing town. The town will further promote the deep processing of fish products, extend the fishery industry chain, and expand sales channels while improving the added value of fish products.
