Jiaxing designated 'gigabit city'
Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province was recently designated a 'gigabit city' by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for its excellent performance in digital infrastructure construction.
A gigabit city is a city in which all average urban households have access to gigabit fiber network coverage, and where there are 22.2 5G base stations per 10,000 people and in which over 80 percent of large public hospitals, key universities, major cultural and tourist sites, trunk airports and key roads have access to 5G.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Jiaxing has 25 5G base stations for every 10,000 people, with 5G users accounting for 34 percent, 10G-PON ports accounting for 31 percent, and users of 500M or more accounting for 30 percent.
"We have video surveillance at our doorstep, and water and soil conservation and fire monitoring are all aided by 5G intelligence," said Li Tingting, a resident of Dongjia village, in Wuzhen town, Tongxiang.
At the end of 2021, Dongjia village launched the digital rural cloud platform along with China Telecom Zhejiang Co Ltd in an effort to achieve intelligent rural governance and home care services through the Internet.
Relying on 5G and gigabit networks, the city has in recent years built a farmland intelligent monitoring system, 5G digital agriculture in Yuxin town, rural intelligent tourism in Xushan Heritage Park, 5G rice industry intelligence network in Pinghu, Pinghu fishery digital management platform, and 5G intelligent pig farming in Shufeng village.
Next, the city will speed up the construction of 5G base stations and continue to improve the quality and coverage of 5G networks.
