Jiaxing to become central city in YRD urban agglomeration

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province will strive to become a central city in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, according to the second plenary session of the ninth CPC Jiaxing Municipal Party Committee on Dec 23.
In the following year, Jiaxing will speed up the promotion of the city’s high-quality development to better serve the implementation of the national strategy of Yangtze River Delta integrated development.
The city aims to become a global advanced manufacturing base in the core area of the Yangtze River Delta. The city's GDP is expected to reach 1 trillion yuan ($143 billion) by 2025 and double within five years.
According to the conference, the city will focus on upgrading industry, innovation, urban functions, opening up, ecology, and digital industries in the future.
The transportation network plays an important role in the city's development.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and expansion of the Jiaxing military and civilian airport was held on Nov 23 in Xiuzhou district.
The airport is expected to be put into operation by 2025, improve civil aviation transportation in the city and strengthen the city's transportation network.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Zhejiang section of the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo railway will be held in Haiyan county on Nov 30 and better integrate the city into the development of the Yangtze River Delta.
In addition, as a developing city with strong potential neighboring Shanghai, Jiaxing will help undertake some of Shanghai's core functions in the future.
