Jiaxing sees increased innovation

Jiaxing ranked 22nd in the national innovative city innovation capacity index, second only to Hangzhou and Ningbo in Zhejiang province, according to reports released by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China.

Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xi'an, Suzhou, Changsha, Hefei and Qingdao made the top 10 in the ranking.

By the end of 2022, the Ministry of Science and Technology had supported 103 cities and districts in becoming national innovation-oriented cities.

The 103 innovation-oriented cities accounted for 51 percent of China's population, received 85 percent of China's R&D investment and 72 percent of local government investment in science and technology, cultivated 85 percent of China's high-tech enterprises, generated 81 percent of China's high-tech enterprise revenue, and accounted for 67 percent of China's GDP.

The 2022 list of China's top 100 cities in innovation capabilities was also released.

Jiaxing ranked 26th on the list, second only to Hangzhou and Ningbo in the province.

Jiaxing attaches great importance to scientific and technological innovation. The proportion of the city's financial expenditures on science and technology reached 4.78 percent, 1.7 times the national average.

The city's intensity of R&D expenditures was 3.31 percent, 1.4 times the national average. There were 162.5 R&D workers for every 10,000 employed people, 2.3 times the national average.
