Population statistics for Zhejiang province in 2022 were released on Feb 22.

Jiaxing's permanent resident population exceeded 5.55 million at the end of 2022, an increase of 35,000 from 5.51 million at the end of 2021, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The city's birth rate was 0.66 percent, its death rate was 0.64 percent, and its urbanization rate was 72.4 percent.

At the end of 2022, the province's permanent resident population was 65.77 million, an increase of 370,000 from 65.4 million at the end of 2021.

The province's permanent urban population was 48.26 million, while the rural population was 17.51 million. The urban population accounted for 73.4 percent of the total, up 0.7 percentage points from 2021.

The number of men was 34.36 million, accounting for 52.2 percent of the total population, while the number of women was 31.41 million, accounting for 47.8 percent of the total population.
