Cultural tourism festival featuring plums kicks off in Jiaxing

The Plum Appreciation Cultural Tourism Festival, a session of the 18th Zhu Yizun Cultural and Art Festival, opened on Feb 25 in Nanmei village, Wangdian town, Xiuzhou district, Jiaxing.

Over 10,000 plum trees of more than 20 varieties are in full bloom in Yiwanyuan Plum Garden in Nanmei village and Jubaowan Plum Garden in Jianlin village.

Various activities are held in the town during the festival.

Visitors can experience such quaint pleasures as flower arrangement, calligraphy, incense and tea art.

In the cultural hall of Nanmei village, visitors can experience activities from ancient times such as Cuju, an ancient Chinese ball game, and a game called "pitch-pot".

Wangdian town, known as Meili in ancient times, is famous for plum blossoms and has a unique plum culture. The famous "Meili School of Poetry" originated here.

Zhu Yizun, a famous scholar from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), was from Wangdian town.
