Many luggage enterprises in Pinghu, Jiaxing, Zhejiang province began seeking to transform from original equipment manufacturers into original design manufacturers to improve the added value of the industry.

There are currently more than 40 luggage enterprises above designated size in Pinghu.

In the past, these enterprises were mainly original equipment manufacturers for foreign brands. Now the luggage enterprises are improving their competitiveness through overseas acquisitions and self-established brands.

To enhance product awareness, a luggage enterprise in Pinghu launched a co-branded piece of luggage with one of Japan's best-known anime brands, increasing its sales.

The enterprise launches more than 700 new products every year, and the gross profit of a single suitcase has increased from 5 percent to 20-30 percent.

Meanwhile, exports of Jiaxing suitcases have seen a recovery.

Luo Fuwang, director of the manufacturing center of a luggage enterprise in Jiaxing, said that the company exported $8.07 million in suitcases in January and February, a year-on-year growth of 67 percent.
