Five counties and county-level cities in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, were included on the 2023 list of China's top 100 counties in high-quality development, which was released at the 2023 China Fortune Summit on May 12.

Among the top 100 counties, Jiaxing's Haining city, Tongxiang city, Pinghu city, Jiashan county and Haiyan county ranked 17th, 19th, 31st, 36th, and 77th, respectively.

Jiaxing has a balanced county economy, with each of its five counties and county-level cities having pillar industries.

For example, Haining has seen rapid growth in strategic emerging industries such as semiconductors, new energy and new materials. In the first quarter of this year, Haining achieved a gross domestic product of 29.95 billion yuan ($4.3 billion), a year-on-year growth of 6.7 percent.

Tongxiang has been striving to develop its digital economy. From 2014 to 2022, the number of digital economy enterprises in Tongxiang increased from 350 to over 2,800. The output value of core manufacturing industries in the digital economy increased from less than 5 billion yuan to 25 billion yuan.

Haiyan is developing and expanding new emerging industries such as nuclear power-related industries and nuclear technology applications, new displays and electronic information, new energy and new materials. In the first quarter, the added value of Haiyan's high-tech industries reached 5.961 billion yuan.

In the first quarter, Pinghu's GDP totaled 17.85 billion yuan, up 5.1 percent year-on-year. Jiashan's GDP stood at 21.39 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.5 percent.
