Jiaxing to expand African market
The Jiaxing commerce bureau held the African exhibition promotion meeting to serve as a bridge for enterprises interested in expanding into the African market on May 18.
Experts were invited to give presentations on investment, law, finance and market rules in Africa.
Information on exhibitions such as Kenya Trade Week, Morocco Trade Week and Africa International Home Exhibition was also shared at the meeting.
In 2022, a total of 2,232 enterprises in Jiaxing traded with Africa, and exports reached 11.92 billion yuan ($1.69 billion), up 24.5 percent year-on-year. In the first quarter of this year, Jiaxing's exports to Africa totaled 4.13 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 82 percent.
Jiaxing Tuoken Import and Export Co, which was founded in Haiyan county, has been having a presence in the African market for more than 10 years. Last year, the company's exports exceeded 400 million yuan, with exports to Africa accounting for 60 percent of the total.
"Before, we acquired customers mainly through direct visits. At the meeting this time, I want to learn about exhibitions of electronics and related products," said Chen Fenying, foreign trade manager of the company.
To boost foreign trade, Jiaxing has implemented preferential policies. A 50-percent subsidy for round-trip air tickets and a full subsidy for booth fees for overseas exhibitors were extended in the first quarter.
