Jiaxing gets high ranking nationwide in CMPCI

Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province ranked 19th in the China Major Power City Index (CMPCI), which was released by the Shanghai Institute for the National Economy, local media reported on May 26.

The index system consisted of several core indicators, such as labor productivity, land productivity, capital productivity, the number of patents granted per 10,000 people, the proportion of talent, and per capita GDP.

The top 20 cities, in order, were Shanghai and Beijing (tied for 1st), Shenzhen, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Changzhou, Ningbo, Xiamen, Foshan, Qingdao, Jinan, Changsha and Yangzhou (tied for 16th), Dongguan, Jiaxing and Nantong (tied for 19th).

According to economist Chen Xian, strong industries and enterprises, especially those involved in advanced manufacturing, make a city "powerful".

Jiaxing regards manufacturing industry as its most important industry and has 32 industrial categories. Its four pillar industries of modern textiles, electronic information, high-end equipment and new materials have a combined scale of over 100 billion yuan ($14.1 billion).

In the first quarter of this year, the added value of Jiaxing's above-designated-size industrial enterprises was 66.96 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 8.7 percent.
