A 15,688-ton Russian foreign trade ship arrived at the dock of Zhapu port in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province on June 6. It was the first direct cargo ship from Vladivostok to Jiaxing since June 1.

On June 1, Vladivostok port in Russia was made a transit port for domestic goods, and Jiaxing Zhapu port became an entry port for the cross-border transportation of domestic goods, according to the General Administration of Customs.

This means that Jilin's domestic goods are able to cross the border into Russia and go directly to Jiaxing via Vladivostok port. The implementation of this policy also increases the service area of Zhapu port and further enhances the port's competitiveness.

In addition, since last year, orders from foreign trade export enterprises in Jiaxing have increased significantly, while the international shipping market has experienced supply-demand imbalances and price fluctuations. Enterprises are facing the dilemma of a shortage of shipping space and rising shipping costs.

To solve this problem, Jiaxing Customs decided to transport the exported goods from Jiaxing to Europe via cross-border sea-rail transport.

This model uses self-chartered ships to export containers from Zhapu port to Vladivostok, Russia, and then via the Russian-European railway to Hamburg, Germany, where the goods are distributed to various European countries.

The voyage from Zhapu to Vladivostok usually takes only one week round trip. It takes about one week to travel from Vladivostok to Europe via rail. This model is expected to make it easier to export goods from Jiaxing.
