A sliver pheasant was recently spotted and recorded by a birdwatcher in Yinmashan, Haiyan county, Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province.

The sliver pheasant is a national second-class protected animal. It has been a valuable ornamental bird in Chinese culture since ancient times.

The sliver pheasant mainly inhabits evergreen broad-leaved forests and dense gully rainforests with sparse undergrowth. It is relatively common in mountainous areas in southern China, but has never been recorded in Jiaxing before, which lacks mountainous areas, or Zhoushan, which is an island.

In recent years, Haiyan county has carried out terrestrial wildlife rescue efforts. Jiaxing has also started work on whole-species biodiversity surveys and assessments and biodiversity monitoring network construction and established a sound supervision and management system combining biodiversity conservation, restoration and utilization.
