Jiaxing sees boom in foreign trade

In the first half of 2023, Jiaxing's imports and exports were valued at 211.05 billion yuan ($29.49 billion), an increase of 2.8 percent year-on-year.

Exports were valued at 164.53 billion yuan, an increase of 9.8 percent, while imports were valued at 46.52 billion yuan, a decrease of 16.1 percent.

From January to June, the city exported 24.7 billion yuan, 11.96 billion yuan and 8.2 billion yuan in goods to ASEAN, Latin America and Africa, respectively, up 34.6 percent, 25.9 percent and 47.3 percent.

The city's exports to Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) member countries were valued at 42.13 billion yuan, an uptick of 14.9 percent and accounting for 25.6 percent of the city's total exports. Exports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative totaled 57.23 billion yuan, an increase of 15.7 percent and accounting for 34.8 percent of the city's total exports.

In the first half of the year, the city's exports to the European Union and Australia increased by 11.1 percent and 9.6 percent, respectively, while exports to the United States, Japan and South Korea decreased by 10.5 percent, 7.5 percent and 14 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, exports of solar cells saw a whopping increase of 50.9 percent to 16.83 billion yuan.
