The 2023 County Economic Innovation and Development Forum was held on July 25 in Beijing. At the meeting, the list of China's top 100 cities in terms of economy was released.

A total of four county-level cities and counties in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province made the list, including Haining city (16th), Tongxiang city (21st), Pinghu city (40th), and Jiashan county (3rd).

Each of the gross domestic product of the shortlisted places was more than 60 billion ($8.39 billion), and their general public budget revenue was around 2 billion yuan.

The comprehensive evaluation was based on four main indicators: economic strength, growth potential, wealth, and sustainability, as well as eight secondary indicators and 27 tertiary indicators.

There were 54 shortlisted places with the combined GDP exceeding 100 billion yuan.

The provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang had the most places on the list with 23 and 16, respectively.

Jiangsu and Zhejiang also had relatively balanced county economies and there is strong competition between the counties in the two provinces.
