On the 2023 list of the top 100 counties in terms of comprehensive tourism strength, three places in Jiaxing were shortlisted, including Tongxiang (5th), a county-level city of Jiaxing, Jiashan county (20th), and Haining (26th), another county-level city of Jiaxing.

Zhejiang province has the most places on the list, with 32 counties or county-level cities in the top 100, while Sichuan has 14, Guizhou has 10, Jiangsu has eight, and Jiangxi has seven.

The ranking was based on 32 indicators divided into six categories, including the development level of the tourism industry, effectiveness of government promotion, tourism development and environmental protection, and tourism quality supervision and market supervision.

In 2022, the average tourism revenue of 1,866 counties and county-level cities in the country reached 3.04 billion yuan ($426 million), while the average number of visitors was 3,759,700.

Seventy-nine counties saw total tourism income exceed 10 billion yuan and receive more than 10 million tourists, 35 fewer than in 2021.

However, 406 counties have achieved growth in both tourism income and number of incoming tourists, accounting for 21.75 percent of all counties.
