The total retail sales of consumer goods in Xiuzhou district, Jiaxing reached 5.91 billion yuan ($826.7 million) from January to June, an increase of 17.8 percent year-on-year, the fastest growth in the city.

Strong sales of new energy vehicles contributed significantly to the growth in consumption.

Retail sales of new energy vehicles in the district reached 367 million yuan, 10.6 times that of the same period last year.

In the first half of this year, Chinese automobile manufacturer BYD sold more than 500 cars valued at over 80 million yuan, growing by 100 percent over the same period last year.

Li Auto's range-extended new energy vehicles have been selling very well lately. According to Li Ang, general manager of Jiaxing Chehejia Automobile Sales Co Ltd, a total of 270 cars were sold in the first quarter and 446 cars were sold in the second quarter. In the first half of the year, the company's sales were valued at 208 million yuan ($29.13 million).

The strong sales of new energy vehicles were not only due to car dealers' promotions but also consumption coupons issued by the government.

A man surnamed Zhang bought a new energy vehicle worth more than 300,00 yuan and saved 10,000 yuan directly with a consumption coupon.

To stimulate consumption, Xiuzhou district has issued more than 4.5 million yuan in consumption coupons for vehicles so far this year.
