Aug 31 marked the last day of the summer travel rush. During this year's two-month rush, the total number of passengers coming from major railway stations in Jiaxing reached a historic high of more than 1.9 million passengers.

Jiaxing Station served more than 620,000 passengers, while Jiaxing South Station served more than 1.3 million, an overall increase of more than 20 percent over 2019. The main destinations were popular tourism destinations such as Beijing, Shandong, Fujian, Xiamen and Hunan.

According to Li Jiadong, the passenger transport director of Jiaxing South Station, this year's summer travel rush increased by 20.1 percent compared with 2019. Passengers mainly traveled for tourism, to visit relatives, or to leave or return to school. Family tourism saw a particularly dramatic increase. According to statistics, the sales of children's tickets expanded 148 percent compared with 2019.

In response to high traffic, railway stations in the city optimized their passenger transport organization plans for the period, including extending operation hours by half an hour and opening all entrances and exits and ticket windows.
