Jiaxing's first offshore solar project, a 30-megawatt tidal flat solar power plant developed by China General Nuclear Power Group in the Haiyan Development Zone, has recently started construction near Haiyan Wharf in Xitangqiao sub-district.

The project has received 136 million yuan ($18.62 million) in investment and covers 416 mu (27.73 hectares) of sea area. It will set photovoltaic modules on the coastal tidal flats and build a 110-kilovolt booster station.

The project can generate 33.54 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which is equivalent to 10,000 metric tons of coal but results in 27,300 tons fewer carbon dioxide emissions, 207.99 tons fewer sulfur dioxide emissions, and 70.45 tons fewer nitrogen dioxide emissions.

Du Xiaochao, the project manager, said that the project consists of two parts: the onshore booster station and the offshore solar area.

The onshore booster station will be completed by the end of November, and the offshore solar area will install 3,915 pipe piles and 54,656 photovoltaic modules and achieve grid-connected power generation by the end of this year.

The project uses high-corrosion-resistant cement-based prefabricated piles and customized photovoltaic modules for marine environments to overcome the challenges of complex coastal tidal flats and marine conditions such as high humidity, salt spray, strong wind, and high waves.
