In the first three quarters of this year, Jiaxing Port achieved a cargo throughput of 106 million metric tons and a container throughput of 25.39 million TEUs, up 9.75 percent and 20.36 percent year-on-year, respectively, both ranking second in Zhejiang province in terms of growth rate.
Despite challenges in foreign trade and shipping market, Jiaxing Port has maintained stable performance. The port's cargo throughput usually exceeds 100 million tons for the year in November, but this year it reached that amount in September.
The growth rate in foreign trade cargo throughput has further expanded as well. The production capacity of new chemical materials industry near Jiaxing Port has increased this year, which has provided support for the growth of foreign trade oil and chemical throughput.
The port's foreign trade cargo throughput increased by 18.58 percent year-on-year to 12.3 million tons, the highest growth rate among coastal ports in the province. Meanwhile, the development of short-sea shipping routes remained stable. From January to September, the shipping route to Japan achieved a container throughput of 73,588 TEUs, a rise of 48.92 percent year-on-year.
The port's container throughput for river-sea intermodal transportation also grew rapidly. This year, seven new routes were added, bringing the total number to 29.
In terms of river-sea intermodal transportation, Jiaxing Port completed a cargo throughput of 25.9 million tons and a container throughput of 720,800 TEUs in the first three quarters, increases of 11.09 percent and 26.05 percent, respectively, over the same period last year.
