The 2023 National Top 1,000 Towns Development Report was recently released, and featuring 230 towns in Zhejiang province, the second most among provinces in China. Jiaxing had 39 towns on the list.

The report focused on the comprehensive strength of towns with small and medium-sized city features, including industrial, agricultural and technological strong towns.

According to the evaluation system, the comprehensive strength index of the towns consists of five first-level indicators, including economic development, innovation vitality, development potential, livability, and prosperity, and 25 second-level indicators.

The report also analyzed 95 super towns with a general public budget revenue of more than 1 billion yuan ($136.84 million) and a registered population of more than 50,000 people in 2021.

These towns were mainly concentrated in the eastern region, with Jiangsu having 41, Guangdong having 24, and Zhejiang having 10.

Zhapu town in Pinghu, a county-level city of Jiaxing, was among the list of super towns, ranking 28th.

Zhapu town achieved a GDP of 20.9 billion yuan and a public budget revenue of 2.07 billion yuan in 2021. Urban and rural residents' disposable incomes were 72,534 yuan and 44,143 yuan, respectively, with average annual growth rates of 7.7 percent and 8.7 percent.
