Jiaxing's foreign trade grows in Q1-3
According to Jiaxing Customs, Jiaxing's imports and exports were valued at 331.55 billion yuan ($45.47 billion) in the first three quarters of this year, up 1.9 percent year-on-year.
The city's exports grew by 6.8 percent to 254.99 billion yuan, ranking fourth in the province in terms of growth rate.
The city's exports to ASEAN, Latin America, Africa and India increased by 23.9 percent, 13.7 percent, 44.8 percent and 15 percent, respectively, reaching 38.09 billion yuan, 17.97 billion yuan, 12.79 billion yuan and 11.41 billion yuan. Exports to 17 Middle Eastern countries also rose by 6.6 percent.
However, exports to the United States, Japan and South Korea declined by 12.3 percent, 10.9 percent and 16.8 percent, respectively.
Exports to RCEP members and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 65.57 billion yuan and 89.65 billion yuan, up 8.5 percent and 15.4 percent, respectively, and accounting for 25.7 percent and 35.2 percent of the city's total exports.
The city's imports from the US surged by 49.9 percent, boosting the city's import growth by 2.9 percentage points, while imports from Russia jumped 77.5 percent, boosting the city's import growth by 0.8 percentage points.
The city's exports of mechanical and electrical products, high-tech products and labor-intensive products expanded 10.6 percent, 15.4 percent and 3.9 percent to 132.89 billion yuan, 54.05 billion yuan and 82.49 billion yuan, respectively. Imports of mechanical and electrical products, high-tech products and agricultural products decreased by 10.9 percent and increased by 2.6 percent and 4 percent, respectively.
