Jiaxing athletes shine at Hangzhou Asian Para Games
The 4th Hangzhou Asian Para Games closed on Oct 28. Jiaxing athletes won gold medals in rowing, archery, and blind football on the last day of the event, ending this year's Asian Para Games with four gold medals in total.
In the PR3 mixed four OARS with coxswain final on Oct 28, the Chinese team, coxed by Yu Li from Haining, a county-level city of Jiaxing, won gold with a time of 7 minutes and 48.45 seconds. "I'm very happy we completed our mission and won this gold medal. We will train harder for the Paris Paralympics," said Yu.
In the men's W1 individual open archery final on the same day, Jiaxing's Zhang Tianxin beat his opponent Han Guifei with a result of 138:135 to win gold. This was his second gold medal at the Para Games.
In the men's blind football final, the Chinese team defeated Iran 2-1 in a penalty shootout to win gold. Among the team members was Wu Limin from Jiaxing. He was selected as the goalkeeper for the Zhejiang provincial blind football team in 2010. He has been the "eyes" of the team and a "protector" for his teammates. "Being with my blind teammates, the main thing I’ve learned is that no matter how difficult it is, we can persevere to the end. Life in 'darkness' also requires struggle to reach the 'light' on the other side," said Wu.
