Jiaxing Port handled 139 million metric tons of cargo in 2023, a 5.44 percent increase from the previous year, making it the second-largest and second-fastest growing port in Zhejiang province.

The port's foreign trade cargo volume also grew by 16.74 percent to 16.32 million tons, the highest growth rate in the province. Its foreign trade container throughput saw a year-on-year increase of 19.29 percent to 3.4 million TEUs. Jiaxing Port also maintained its lead in sea-river intermodal transport, handling 34.85 million tons and 976,200 TEUs of cargo, up 5.25 percent and 25.8 percent, respectively.

Throughout the year, the primary types of cargo at the port were coal and mineral building materials, accounting for 34.46 percent and 22.63 percent of the total cargo throughput, respectively.

The port-side chemical new materials industry, operating efficiently along its shores, played a pivotal role in the swift growth of foreign trade in petroleum and chemicals. Additionally, the development of short-sea routes, particularly the one to Japan, further enhanced foreign trade container throughput. Notably, the Japan route saw an annual container throughput surpassing 100,000 TEUs, reflecting a surge of 41.22 percent year-on-year.

The port also opened the first 64-TEU inland river container routes in the province, increasing the number of sea-river intermodal routes to 29 and adding 31 new inland river container vessels, better serving the sea-river intermodal transportation.
