Jiaxing's foreign trade achieves stable growth in 2023

In 2023, Jiaxing's foreign trade experienced stable growth.

According to Jiaxing Customs, the value of the city's imports and exports totaled 440.99 billion yuan ($61.67 billion), a year-on-year growth of 0.3 percent. Exports amounted to 333.75 billion yuan, reflecting a robust growth of 3.8 percent. Jiaxing's total foreign trade ranked 4th in Zhejiang province, while its total exports ranked 5th.

Jiaxing's trade saw increased diversification in 2023. Growth rates in trade with emerging markets outpaced traditional markets. For example, trade between Jiaxiang and Latin America, India, and Russia saw year-on-year increases of 11.0 percent, 23.9 percent, and 21.3 percent, respectively.

ASEAN and the European Union remained its top two trading partners, with total values of 84.2 billion yuan and 81.3 billion yuan, reflecting increases of 4.9 percent and 1.2 percent. Additionally, trade with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative surged by 10.1 percent.

In the high-tech sector, Jiaxing achieved 69.76 billion yuan in exports in 2023, growing by 1.9 percent. Exports of mechanical and electrical products amounted to 172.1 billion yuan, a growth of 3.6 percent, while exports of labor-intensive products reached 107.23 billion yuan, increasing by 3.7 percent.

Cross-border e-commerce emerged as a crucial driver of foreign trade, with the cumulative value of imports and exports reaching 12.57 billion yuan, a remarkable growth of 34.3 percent. Private enterprises also played a significant role in driving foreign trade, achieving a total value of 316.28 billion yuan and contributing to a 4.3 percent increase in the city's overall growth.
