Jiaxing's foreign trade has started the year on a high note, witnessing a remarkable 17.8 percent increase in imports and exports in January and February. According to Jiaxing Customs, total trade value amounted to 71.64 billion yuan ($9.95 billion), with exports reaching 51.77 billion yuan and imports totaling 19.87 billion yuan.

The city's exports to emerging markets, including ASEAN, Latin America, India, and Africa, saw significant growth, totaling 7.57 billion yuan, 3.82 billion yuan, 3.77 billion yuan, and 2.36 billion yuan, respectively, up 19.6 percent, 26.2 percent, 100 percent and 43.4 percent.

Exports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 21.76 billion yuan, comprising 42 percent of the city's total exports.

Imports from the United States and ASEAN have been particularly robust. Those from the United States doubled during the period, while those from ASEAN surged by 41.3 percent. Imports from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative totaled 11.03 billion yuan, representing 55.5 percent of the city's total imports.

Labor-intensive products led the export surge, with textiles, clothing, plastic products, and furniture showing notable increases.

Imports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment more than doubled, while imports of electromechanical products amounted to 7.94 billion yuan, increasing by 43.7 percent and accounting for 39.9 percent of the city's total imports.
