Jiaxing Port Area, in response to China's dual-carbon goals and green transportation development plan, is making significant strides in the hydrogen energy sector.

The port area recently signed a contract on the design and construction of China's first inland river hydrogen fuel cell-powered container ship. This vessel, measuring 64.9 meters in length and 12.6 meters in width, will carry 64 standard containers and operate solely on hydrogen, ensuring zero emissions and a range of approximately 380 kilometers.

Scheduled for completion in October 2024, this groundbreaking ship will ply the route between Zhapu Port and Xiasha Port, covering a one-way distance of 120 km. It is meant to demonstrate the viability of green hydrogen energy for inland container transportation, establishing the nation's first green hydrogen-powered container transport line.

Jiaxing Port Area's ambitious plan includes deploying 20 hydrogen-powered vessels by 2026, transporting 500,000 standard containers annually. By promoting hydrogen-powered vessel routes, the port area aims to spur the application of hydrogen energy in the transportation sector and contribute to a more sustainable future.
